Vertices Unite

11 April 2017 • 3 Comments

For a long while, I think i already told you, I was hesitant in front of Stephen West’s patterns : some nice constructive idea, but the colors choices on the sample and the staging were too excentric for me. I couldn’t see myself wearing any of them…

Then, doodler arrive, and all these butterfly wings showing on Instagram and Ravelry, in many different color combo (not all excentric), made me dream and want to knit one… I realised my Doodler for myself ! And I fall in love with it ! Et I still love wearing it, as well as Pilou and Capucine, which sometimes creates some strange situation : “Where is my shawl ?” “Which shawl ?” “My Doodler !” 3 Shall i remind you I knitted it for myself…” “Yes, but…” etc.

From that moment, I decided to pass behind the flashy colors and to look for other realisations, in order to rediscover them in other colors and to try to see myself in them… I was decided to knit another one of Stephen’s pattern : I just had to decide which one…

I hesitated to participate to the november MKAL (Mystery Knit along), but I didn’t have enough yarn in my statsh, so I didn’t make it. But, shortly after, I saw the Vertices Unite of my friend Mimi and I knew it was the one I was meant to knit !

As you should know, I didn’t have enough yarn in my stash… 😉 I had one precious skein of Lilou Delicate fingering, bought last summer  at the yarn festival Les Fibrophiles, but I was missing 4 other skeins to go with it. I mentionned to Santa if he was looking for a present idea, I even thought about different color combo to help him… 😉

But he never had to order yarn : a surprise package arrived in my mail box one lovely day of november ! In it, 4 lovely skeins of La Bien Aimée Merino single, that my friend Mimi was gifting me… Aimée had chosen the colors and they were juste perfect with my first skein ! I’m a lucky girl to have such sweet friends…

I immediately begun, hoping to have it finished before I gave birth…

The pattern was addictive !!! I really love the modularity of Stephen’s pattern, with different sections adding to one another… It is super fun to knit ! And garter stitch with stripes was just the perfect match for my tired pregnant brain…

I decided to make the big one to cuddle in it and because I had enough yardage for it. I worked on it non-stop, making one section after another… Addictive, I told you ! That, and I was stuck in my couch, with my big belly and nothing else to do but knit…

Since I finished it, it bacame my new favorite shawl… It is out everyday : it even came to the hospital with me ! 🙂 It is perfect !

However, just like my Doodler, Capucines really likes it a lot and she’s begging me to knit a shawl for herself (and just for herself)… I might make a small version of Vertices Unite for her, one day… Who knows ?

This is lovely, Like you I thought some of the colours were just too “out there” but yours is gorgeous and I am now going to knit this also in the larger size – thanks for sharing your colour choices

Thank you ! Looking for other people project can really help to see the potential of a pattern, especially if the sample is “too much”…
I hope you will enjoy making yours. I’m actually knitting a second one for my daughter 🙂

[…] one for herself… After many months of negotiations, I indulged ! I had already made a big Vertices Unite (from Stephen West) for myself the previous winter (even though, now, Pilou has claimed it to be his own, but it is another story) […]
