Frosty beanie is my newest knitting pattern, out today (February 17th).
Frosty beanie is is a simple stockinette beanie, with an interesting construction from the top down, with a large double layer brim.
It’s an everyday winter staple that you can make in every possible colour, easy to grab and put on while going out.
I already talked about it multiple times on my Patreon page, but let’s go back in time to trace its history.
At the beginning (March 2019), everything began when I fell in love with a colour. All my purchases during this parisian trip where in this blue-green colourway, including a skein of (Vilaines chausettes and a ball of Filcolana Tilia. When I bought them, I already knew I would knit them together to make a hat, but I wasn’t sure about its form yet, so I waited until my ind was clear.
Fast forward to February 2020, I was preparing to go on another parisian trip with a knitter friend. I needed a simple project (but not noring), which would allow me to knit will chating with her. Mi design idea was here : a simple-looking beanie, ll in stockinette, but with a clever construction from the top down. All the math was done and I left for Paris with my project in my bag.
It kept its promises. I spend great hours speaking with my friend while enjoying knitting it. Sadly, I didn »t have enough yarn in my statsh to finish this sample, si I put it aside waiting to nuy more yarn.
Then, the pandemy happened, lockdown was declared and I lost my motivation to create and knit for a few months. Then, summer arrived and I had other projects I wanted to work on…
But, in October, with autumn coming this way, I got the itch to take this project back. I ordered yarn and begun to work on the pattern again. Suddenly, everything spec up : I enjoyed this pattern so much that I decide to make more andordered enough yarn to make at least 2 more samples before even finishing the first one !
It’s such a great staple to have into every winter wardrobe. Depending on the yarn used, the resuls can be so different, and it is a good base too for embellishment such as embroderies, fabric or leather tag or a lovely button…
Whil I was on the roll, I found it sad to offer the pattern just for one gauge. The idea bloomed to offer you a « Recipe » spreadsheet which would allow you to knit the frosty beanie with any given gauge. This Excel file is really easy to use. You just have to select the size you want to make and indicate the number of stitches and rounds of your gauge swatch and the spreadsheet calculates automatically all the necessary numerbs ! Then , you just have to follow the file !
Frosty beanie is now live and I’m so excited about this pattern. You can find it on Ravelry and Payhip. I hope you will enjoy knitting it as much as I had fun creating it.
At least, I can tell you there will be more on my needles…
