Saturday, I published a new knitting pattern : the Top Espoir, a loose linen tee. You might already know this, but I love to wear linen tops in summer : they are so light, flowing and breathable… And this one is no exception !
Top Espoir is a classic linen tee, with a little twist. It combines interesting details like ribbing on the shoulders and a split at the front neck, with a loose casual fitting, making it a perfect summer wardrobe staple. It’s simple : I wore it so often last summer !
This top is worked in 2 parts. First, the T is worked sideways from one sleeve to the other. Then, stitches are picked up along the T edge to work the body top down in the round. Short rows are worked on the Front to give more ease.
When I began to work on the sample in May 2019, the weather was rainy and cold for the season and I was dreaming of warmers days at the beach. That’s when I found the name of the pattern (Espoir means Hope in French), because this sample was carrying all my hopes for a beautiful summer to come…
At the beginning, I was hoping to publish it in July of the same year, but I got a bit delayed. After discussing it with some people, I decided to report the publication to this spring (2020).
Back then, I couldn’t imagine for one second that the name of this pattern, in the situation we are actually living in, would have so much more meaning for me…
What was first only dreams of sun to counter rainy days carry much more than that now : hope that this suation, this worldwide pandemy, will subside, that we will become aware of our responsibilities, of our choices, of our actions, that radical changes will happen… So many hopes…
