Today, I published a new knitting pattern : Corylus.
I got this design idea about one year ago, to solve one of my dilemnas. I like to have something around my neck : a covering wrapping shawl and shoulders or a snuggly cowl. Even thougth they do their job pretty well, they also have each their troubles…
Shawls don’t always hold into place and need to be replace from time to time, which can be trouble some if you hav your ams full of stuff… Cowls don’t move, but they don’t always cover well the nice open necklines I like to wear…
There came the idea of Corylus : an hybrid between a triangular shawl and a cowl, combining the advantages of both, covering, holding in place, and with 2 layers, perfectly warm…
I found the yarn to make it last summer at the Franch yarn festival L’Echeveau solidaire, on the botth of Lain’azmourée. I stopped short in front of the colourways and, after squishing the skeins (a luxury blend of camel and silk), I couldn’t resist…
I knitted the first sample at the end of 2019 and I was really happy with the result.
I hadn’t planned to offer it in more than one size, but my big girl Capucine made it clear she’d like one for herself. I complied, graded it for a smaller size and found to 2 skeins in my stash…
While knitting this second sample, i realised I could improve it around the pleat. Once this 2nd sample was done, I ripped the 1st and knitted it again with those improvements. And I really like it !
Coryluscomes in 2 sizes
- a small size, loose around a child’s neck or snugly for an adult
- a large size, loose around an adult’s neck
This pattern includes schematics, charts and fully detailed written explanations for an enjoyable knitting time.
