I just published a new knitting pattern for Le Fil de la Manche (Channel Thread) yarn festival. Selenian shawl has a crescent shape, like an ode to the Moon !
It incorporates a center in stockinette with short rows to create its form, bordered on one side with cables on garter stitch and, on the other side, with a lace and cable border.
I falled for the yarn in november at craft fair in Paris. I didn’t know what I would be doing exactly with it, except I knew it would become a shawl…
Slowly, one step at a time, the idea appeared in my mind. First, I imagined a long stripe in garter stitch with big cables. As I saw it naturally coiling, I had the idea of a crescent. I then knitted the center in stockinette with short rows to enhance the ffect. Then I added a lace and cabled border to finalised it.
The yarn, a subtle blend of merino, silk and yak, has an incredible softness ! It is an absolute pleasure to knit it !
I met the dyer (Simone) in November when I bought the yarn. When I saw her again in March, I asked her if she would be interested in offering yarn kits for Le Fil de la Manche, the yarn fest during which I wanted to introduce this new pattern and she said yaes !
Unfortunately, she could make it to the events, but I picked up the skeins on my way to the festival. When I discovered the colourways, it was really difficult to expose them : I had to take it on myself because I wanted to keep them all for myself…
The pattern is now available in English and French on Ravelry and I hope you will like knitting it !
I want to thank my two tech-editors, Fanette and Tian, for all their help and also my lovely test-knitters who made gorgeous shawls from the pattern !
