This cast-on is my go-to cast-on for a lot of projects.
Material
To work this cast-on, you will need your ball of yarn and a set of needle.
Step 1
Wrap the yarn 10 times around your needle point. Measure the length of yarn necessary to do these 10 rounds, this will give you the amount of yarn you need to cast on 10 sts.
Multiply this length by the multiple of 10 sts you want to cast-on. (For example, you want to cast-on 30 sts, you multiply the length by 3). Measures this length on your strand of yarn then add 20 cm.
Step 2
Work a slip knot at the length needed.
Place the slip knot on the right needle. The strand of yarnfrom the ball go over the left forefinger, the otherlength go over the left thumb.
Step 3
A loop is formed around your left thumb.
Pass the point of your right needle inside the loop from below
Pass the strand of yarn from the yarn ball around the needle (below, in front then above the needle).
Pull the needle and the yarn from the loop. You have casted on 1 new stitch on the right needle.
Step 4
Release the yarn from your thumb and pull it to tighten the base of the stitch.
Replace the yarn around your thumb.
Step 5
Repeat steps 3 and 4 until you have the desired number of stitches.
